OUR APPROACH TO LEATHER
Leather in itself is a sustainable material, and the leather we source is specifically a by-product of the food industry – meaning we use the hides of the animal and the rest of the animal is consumed, too. Not only do we manufacture at a scale that is proportional to demand, but we use the remaining scraps after production to create our small leather goods collection – so we are an actual “no waste” business.
We’ve aimed to be a responsible brand since day one, because it felt natural. designing the perfect leather jacket while keeping zero inventory, zero waste, local production and micro-factories is our ethos. this isn’t always the easy way, but we feel it is the right way to produce. We want to tell you more about that.
2. ZERO WASTE
“Recut” by Nour Hammour is our sustainable leather project. This zero-waste initiative repurposes discarded leather from production into a new collection, thereby creating the smallest environmental impact in the best working conditions for our artisans.
At the end of every working day, our artisans collect all the leather scraps that would normally be disposed of. these leather scraps are given a second life by being made in to a small leather good collection. We love to give away leather accessories with our orders and at our events.
All our collections are developed at our Parisian atelier. We chose our production locations to optimize product quality, reduce carbon emissions and offer the most superior artisan craftmanship. We have an in-house team of manufacturers, as well as a few tiny workshops around Paris and one in Istanbul.
One of our favorite producers that we work with is a married couple who have been making leather jackets for 50 years – they made our first leather jacket 8 years ago. We established our workshop in istanbul to have a vertically integrated atelier specializing in shearling.
